BE SAVED TODAY!
What does it mean to be saved? Really, in order to be saved one must realize that they are lost. Well, what does it mean to be lost?
To be lost means to be in a state of damnation, spiritual death, condemnation (John 5:24). All who have sinned fall short of the glory of God and earn to themselves condemnation (Romans 3:23; 6:23). Because God is just, He must punish sin. How then can one who is lost find salvation with God?
God so loved the world that He gave His son to be a sin offering for the world (John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus came, lived as a human being, was tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin, and offered His sinless life as a sacrifice for our sins (Philippians 2:5-8; Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 10:5-10). When one reads Isaiah 53 the picture becomes clear, Jesus took our place (cf. Acts 8:26-39). The punishment you and I deserve for our sins was paid by Jesus on the cross (Matthew 27; 1 John 4:10).
The question for us today is, “What must we do to gain the salvation that is found only in Jesus?” (cf. 2 Timothy 2:10; John 14:6). Not only are we told that salvation is in Christ, but all the elements relating to salvation are found there too. We are told that redemption is in Christ (Romans 3:24); and grace is in Christ (2 Timothy 2:1); the promise of life is in Christ (2 Timothy 1:1); in fact, every spiritual blessing found in heavenly places is in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). Notice the term used over and over, “In Christ.” If the blessings God has to offer us, up to and including salvation itself, are found “in Christ,” how do we get “into Christ?” Thankfully, God has made that way known. Romans 6:1-6 teaches us that we crucify ourselves to this world and are baptized (buried) into Christ. In Galatians 3:26-29 we find that we are baptized into Christ to become children of God.
Our faith has to be in Christ. Faith that stands outside of Christ is not saving faith. Jesus put it this way: “He who believes (the Gospel) and is baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:15-16).
